Chapter 12 -Motion Pictures -(Bonus Blog Post)

Today in class we talked about motion pictures.

Motion pictures can be classified as many things such as movies, films, ect.

Motion pictures is another term for movies.

There are many genres of motion pictures (movies). There is comedy, crime, documentary, horror, musical, romance, science fiction, thriller, war, western, ect.

My top three favorite movies are Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Beauty and the Beast. There are many reasons as to why these movies are my favorite. All three of these are musical movies and they have all been made into musicals.

I love musical type movies. I can really relate to them because I have played in the pit orchestra during my entire high school career. (Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the King and I). I really love musical movies because the songs are always catchy and I always like to remember the lyrics.

These movies have been turned in musicals and I have seen all three of these in Chicago and it was a great experience! The soundtracks are great.

There are a variety of reasons as to why society enjoys watching certain movies. The action can cause the viewer to like the movie. The action may also be a factor. A lot of people tend to love action movies because of the action that is in them. Many messages also give certain messages to viewers. They can either be positive or negative. This can cause be a reason as to why people like certain movies. These messages can affect a person and change their outlook on a certain situation (stereotypes are bad, never change who you are,  etc).

Messages that movies give can be interpreted in a positive or negative way. Every movie gives a message whether we realize it or not.

My favorite genre of movie is horror. I absolutely love horror movies. I like the adrenaline I have after I jump during certain sections. My mom and I are true horror movie fans. Every time we see a movie coming out that we want to see we always see it the first day it comes out. My favorite horror movie is the Conjuring. That is the last movie that I have ever seen that I really enjoyed. Everything about it is creepy (creepy doll, old house, etc).

As I previously mentioned, I also like musical movies.

I also like war movies such as “Troy” and “the Odyssey”.

Today in movies, the technology that is used has not been available back in the day. Today we can watch movies in 3-D. Back then we wouldn’t be able to. There are also cool special effects that are used in movies today. Color is also used in movies today and it was not used so much back then. These are some of the aspects of technology that are used today that were not used back then.

In my free time I always watch movies. I always watch them on Netflix.  I enjoy going to the movie theater and watching movies more than watching them at home for a lot of reasons. The screen at the movie theater is bigger. The sound is louder. There is popcorn and candy! And the seats are comfortable.

Movies have existed for a very long time and will always be permanent in our lives.

 

 

Music and Music Videos (Blog Post #10)

In class today we discussed about music and music videos.

Music can be described as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.

Music is everywhere whether we realize it or not.

It appears on television, sporting events, concerts, ect.

Music is also common in movies. Music in a movie gives hints as to what is going to happen. Without it we would not know what is going on. When we listen to music, we may think of it as cheerful, happy, sad, angry, or frightening. When the music sounds like it is frightening, the actions that are in a specific movie may also be frightening. The actors may look horrifying. The movie might be placed in a darker setting. The music always goes along with the movie. Romantic music or cheerful music would not appear in a horror movie. It would appear in a romantic/chickflick movie.

Music is very common in today’s society. We listen to it as we are walking to class. We listen to it as we are working out at the gym. We listen to it while studying for a test. We may also listen to it during a long car drive. Music makes everything more interesting. It makes us feel a certain way. It can make us cry. It can make us angry. It may make us feel motivated or it may make us feel remorseful.

Without music, life is dull and empty.

When we listen to music, we can relate to certain situations. So if we did not have it, we could not relate to anything.

Without music, we would not be able to cope with hard situations. Individuals are known to listen to music when they are in a rocky situation.

Music videos are also very popular to this day.

In 1895, the first “music video” was made in Thomas Edison’s studio.

If we really think about it, that was from a really long time ago!

In general, we can view music videos on so many websites!

Youtube is the most popular website that allows viewers to watch music videos. Youtube gets so many views second by second.

Vevo is also another popular website for watching music videos.

My favorite website is YouTube because not only does it have music videos but it also has videos that have tutorials on how to do a certain thing.

Music videos has a lot of power to them. They can address social and political issues. One example is “No Guns Allowed” by Snoop Lion ft. Drake. It is about ending the massive gun violence epidemic both domestically and globally. The video features children playing with guns like toys along with footage from the aftermaths of Sandy Hook and Columbine.

Music videos gives us messages. They address certain issues that are going on in the world today. Music videos may be about learning to love yourself, murder, how we are too obsessed with politics, weight, ect.

Music videos promote products. They may promote products such as a certain pair of shoes or a certain type of car. This will cause the viewer to be interested in the product.

Music videos may also promote a certain lifestyle.

For example, a music video may be about drugs. They try to make viewers believe that this is the ideal lifestyle to have and that doing drugs is a positive thing. Another example is women trying not to wear the amount of clothing they should wear. Music videos may also promote violence.

 

Music videos can have different themes to them. They may emphasize love, violence, drugs, family problems, spouse problems, ect. When we watch them we are able to see what things may be like for people in situations that actually happen in society.

Music videos are important. We not only hear the words but we always get a visualization as to what is happening. We get an image in our heads and we get a hint as to what is going on.
